Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 general elections, has disclosed that they have formally raised objections with the BBC regarding a report concerning Bola Ahmed Tinubu's academic credentials.
The BBC report, titled "Bola Tinubu diploma: No evidence Nigeria’s president forged college record," meticulously examined the controversy surrounding the certificate submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It concluded that there was no substantiated evidence to support the claim of forgery.

However, during an interview on Channels TV's Politics Today, Shaibu clarified that they have taken issue with the top management of the BBC regarding the matter.
Shaibu commented, "When they said a report by the BBC, I laughed at the level of pedestrianism. The three young people who wrote that report are not even in the employment of the BBC. They are just like a fact-checking team. Let me take one of the authors of that report, Olaronke Alo. As of 2019, he was a reporter and presenter at TVC owned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu."
"We don’t need the services of a clairvoyant to know how the stories were put together. The first paragraph will tell you they got the true certified copy of the position from Frank Shaibu. One of the reporters asked me for it and I sent it to her," he added.
Furthermore, Shaibu pointed out that the same report claimed that their attempts to contact the Atiku media team were unanswered. They have already addressed this with the top management and have submitted a petition to the BBC, expressing concerns about the utilization of their platform for what they perceive as an agenda-driven report.
