Renowned content creator and skit maker, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, widely known as Kiekie, has put forth a suggestion that women should consider sharing house rent expenses with their spouses.
Kiekie expressed this viewpoint while recounting her experiences about fame post-marriage during an episode of Toke Makinwa’s podcast titled "Toke Moments," aired on Friday.
Famous for her entertaining content featuring expressive gestures and dance routines that never fail to amuse her audience, Kiekie shed light on her living situation with her husband, which began during their dating phase after her rental lease came to an end.
She explained, "When I was dating my husband, my rent expired in September and we were going to get married in January, so I didn’t bother renewing my rent. I just moved into his place."
Adding to this, she revealed, "We had already done our introduction in June. So we lived together for about four months but the truth is that he was always busy just like I was."
Touching on a significant aspect of marital dynamics, Kiekie emphasized that when women contribute to rent payments, it fosters a greater sense of shared responsibility and can potentially curb any inclination of one party asserting sole ownership of the home.
She posed a thought-provoking question, "How can you be living in a house and you are not paying rent? You can do some other things as the man, in fact, fly me to Dubai or Barcelona, and buy me a Fendi bag on my birthday but I will be living in the house without paying rent? It is not possible."
Kiekie further stressed that this arrangement would lead to a more balanced and equitable partnership, ensuring that both parties have an equal stake in the living space.
Drawing parallels, she likened the situation to having a friend who enjoys the privileges of residing in a place without contributing to the financial responsibilities.
Moreover, Kiekie disclosed that she and her husband split all household expenses, encompassing nanny fees to dry-cleaning services, reinforcing the idea of a shared financial commitment.
Kiekie entered marital bliss with Shonaola Ilori in February 2020, and the couple now shares the joy of parenting a child together.
