Late Miss Chinyere Awuda |
Chinyere Awuda, the Anambra lady whose tragic demise near an abandoned pool shocked many, has been laid to rest in Awuda, Nnobi community, in the Idemili South Local Government Area. The 30-year-old, a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, met a tragic end on July 15, allegedly from a beating at a hotel during a birthday celebration. Her funeral on Saturday was marked by heart-wrenching farewells from former classmates, friends, and family, all remembering her as a kind and affable soul.
The grieving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Awuda, struggled to contain their sorrow, expressing profound sadness over their daughter's untimely passing. They conveyed their deep sense of injustice, emphasizing that Chinyere met an "undeserved death." They recounted, "She was our fifth child. The news of her sudden death came to us as a rude shock. We never expected that her promising life with a bright future would be cut short in such a manner."
Details surrounding her tragic end remain contentious. While the police claim autopsy results indicate drowning, the family contends that Chinyere was a victim of foul play. They cite the withholding of CCTV footage by both law enforcement and the hotel as a source of suspicion. In their grief, they have entrusted matters of retribution to a God.
“We heard that she was beaten to death by a group of boys and her corpse was found near an abandoned swimming pool in the hotel where she went with her friends to celebrate someone’s birthday.
“Although the police said autopsy proved she drowned, we believe she was killed as they have refused to release the CCTV footage of the incident. What can we do? We have left vengeance to God.”
Echoing their sentiments, Chinyere's elder brother, Ekene, lamented the absence of empathy from both the police and the hotel management, intensifying the family's anguish during this trying time.
