As the day of the much-awaited swearing-in ceremony drew near, the Nigerian government has announced that the Federal Secretariat Complexes Phases I, II, and III, along with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will be inaccessible due to tightened security measures.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Head of Service, Mrs. Nkechi Onwudiwe, it was disclosed that the restriction will commence at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26 and will last till Monday, May 29.
The statement also added that access to the affected areas will not be granted until Tuesday, May 30, much to the dismay of officers and intending visitors.
"The government is committed to ensuring a seamless swearing-in ceremony for all dignitaries and guests in attendance," Mrs. Onwudiwe noted. "Hence, we implore all affected parties to bear with us during this period."
The move has been widely received with mixed reactions from the general public, with some hailing the government's efforts towards ensuring safety and security, while others express their concerns over the prolonged restriction.
Nonetheless, one thing is certain, that the forthcoming swearing-in ceremony promises to be a significant milestone in the history of Nigeria.
