In response to the looting of warehouses by residents, the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has declared a 24-hour curfew in the state. The announcement was made on Sunday, July 30, following incidents where hoodlums raided two warehouses and stole items intended for distribution to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal.
Reports indicate that the hoodlums, chanting "Enough of Hunger," targeted the warehouses in the early hours of Sunday and made off with the government's relief supplies. This response comes in the wake of the removal of petrol subsidy, which has led to severe hardships for a majority of Nigerians, as the cost of goods and services has surged.
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Fintiri, Humwashi Wonosikou, emphasized the urgency of the curfew due to the dangerous escalation of hoodlum activities throughout the state capital. These lawless elements attacked people with machetes and broke into business premises, causing widespread unrest.
With the imposed curfew, movement within the state is strictly prohibited, except for individuals engaged in essential duties who possess valid identification. The government urged residents to comply with the directive, warning that anyone found violating the curfew order would be arrested and prosecuted.
