Speaking during a Q&A session after his speech on the role of the Diaspora in building a new Nigeria, Bakare declared that he would never recognize Bola Tinubu as his president, despite Tinubu's recent election victory.
"I will address Asiwaju as a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," Bakare said, "but I will never call him my president. The 2023 elections were below acceptable standards, and until this mess is cleared off, I cannot in good conscience acknowledge Tinubu as the rightful president of Nigeria."
