Paris Saint-Germain's star player, Lionel Messi, has been suspended by the club for two weeks with immediate effect. The decision comes after his unapproved trip to Saudi Arabia following their 3-1 loss to Lorient last weekend.
The suspension was confirmed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted the news: “Paris Saint-Germain have decided to suspend Lionel Messi with immediate effect for two weeks, sources confirm."
It was disclosed that Messi had asked to visit the Arab Gulf in order to fulfill the terms of his sponsorship agreement with the Saudi embassy. His permission to travel was granted by PSG manager Christophe Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos, but only if PSG won or drew—not if they lost.
If they overcame Lorient on Sunday, Galtier had promised his team two days off on Monday and Tuesday. However, in the event of a defeat, the players would have been summoned to Monday's training.
Messi's decision to travel to Saudi Arabia without seeking permission again after the defeat meant he missed training on Monday. PSG has since suspended him, adhering to the club's strict code of conduct.
The superstar's suspension will serve as a warning to all PSG players, emphasizing the club's commitment to discipline and professionalism.
