Liverpool Fc American owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are considering purchasing the French club Bordeaux to expand their football holdings, according to a statement from Bordeaux.

Bordeaux announced that the plan to sell a majority stake to FSG has been presented to the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion, which oversees the finances of French clubs.

"We are working closely with them as part of the ongoing negotiations and due diligence," Bordeaux said in their statement.

Bordeaux, a six-time French league champion, most recently in 2009, is currently facing financial difficulties. The club is appealing a decision to relegate them to the third division and is seeking financial assurances for the next season.

In March, Liverpool stated that FSG, which has owned the club since 2010, was interested in buying another football club.

An FSG spokesperson said, "Fenway Sports Group has expressed interest in the potential acquisition of French football club Girondins de Bordeaux and is in the early stages of dialogue and engagement. While the process is at this exploratory phase, we will not be making any further comment.
