Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, a £60 million signing, will be sidelined due to a hamstring injury, causing him to miss crucial upcoming matches against Arsenal and Fulham.
Szoboszlai, who was substituted during Liverpool's victory against Newcastle on Monday, will sit out the FA Cup third-round clash against Arsenal on Sunday and the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham at Anfield the following Wednesday.
Klopp shared on Friday, "It’s his muscle, hamstring. How long? We have to see. Dom is very positive. He doesn’t have a lot of pain but we have to wait a little bit. No chance for Sunday or Wednesday, and then we will see after that. Hopefully, he might be back (after next week) but we don’t know."
The Hungarian international captain, having made a significant impact in his debut season with Liverpool after moving from RB Leipzig, will likely be replaced by the fit-again Alexis Mac Allister.
Liverpool's upcoming fixtures mark the first without Mo Salah and Wataru Endo, who are away representing their countries in AFCON and the Asian Cup, respectively. Klopp expressed jestingly, "If I said if I wish you good luck it would be a lie!" while emphasizing his desire for their prompt return.
"From a personal point of view, I would be happy if they go out in the group stage, but that’s probably not possible. They can go on and win it. So it was 'good luck and come back healthy.' We have to deal with it, and we will deal with it. I am pretty positive that we will find a way."
