José Mourinho |
AS Roma has terminated its association with Jose Mourinho as the team finds itself in the ninth position in Serie A.
Mourinho's final match in charge was a 3-1 defeat against AC Milan on Sunday. Notably, Mourinho watched the game from the stands due to a suspension. Roma has struggled recently, securing only one victory in their last six league matches. Additionally, they were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by arch-rivals Lazio last week.
In Serie A this season, Roma has won only eight out of their 20 matches, placing them below teams like Bologna, Atalanta, and Fiorentina in the race for European qualification. The decision to part ways with Mourinho was made by Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
In a statement, the Friedkin duo expressed gratitude to Mourinho for his passion and efforts during his tenure at AS Roma. However, they believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
''We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.''
''We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. ''
