Everton has been hit with the heaviest points deduction in Premier League history—10 points—as a result of a breach of profit and sustainability rules.
Everton, expressing deep disappointment, has declared its intention to appeal the decision, challenging the severity and fairness of the imposed penalty.
The club's official statement reads,
"'Both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the Commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted."
The immediate imposition of the 10-point deduction places Sean Dyche's team in the relegation zone, marking a significant setback for Everton.
During a five-day hearing, Everton conceded a breach of the league's Profitability and Sustainability Rules, with the Commission determining a loss of £124.5 million during the relevant period, exceeding the £105 million threshold permitted.
Previously 14th in the league table, Everton, now grappling with the points loss, faces the challenging task of navigating the relegation zone.
