Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has been subjected to a severe assault, resulting in his hospitalization.
Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been admitted to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri with his right eye swollen shut, following a brutal attack.
According to Comrade Benson Upah, the NLC’s Head of Information and Publicity, the incident began as an abduction and escalated into an attempted murder. He provided an update, stating, "Contact has been made with Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero this evening around 15:30 hours at the Police Hospital in Owerri from where he was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he is receiving medical attention."
Ajaero, visibly battered, disclosed that immediately after his arrest, he was subjected to physical assault, blindfolded, and transported to an undisclosed location where further brutalization occurred, including the use of bottles.
Additionally, his personal belongings, including phones and money, were confiscated and have not been returned to him. The extent of the injuries sustained during this vicious attack remains a matter of concern.
