A marriage ceremony in Kano State took a dramatic turn when the designated Waliyyi, a man who represents the bride in marriage negotiations, was accused of stealing her dowry just before the wedding.
The incident occurred in the Kurna area of Dala LGA and was discovered after a search was conducted on individuals in the vicinity, leading to the money being found inside the pocket of the Waliyyi.
A witness to the incident, Sunusi Dan Mamman, reported that the Waliyyi claimed no knowledge of how the money ended up in his pocket.
“During the search, the money was found inside the pocket of the Waliyyi, who said he didn’t know how it got there.”
“After finding the money, the Waliyyi was chased out of the mosque as he could no longer stand as the bride’s representative. His younger brother was then assigned to take his place, and the wedding proceeded,” he said.
